Daniel Ekonde

Eight years of storytelling

My Profile
Daniel Ekonde
Daniel completes his two-year masters in journalism this May — UC Berkeley, 2026

Daniel Ekonde is a journalist and Master of Journalism candidate at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in narrative and multimedia storytelling. Originally from Cameroon, he brings an international lens to his reporting — covering stories across Africa and the United States.

His bylines span some of the world's most respected newsrooms, including Al Jazeera, CNN, Semafor, and Quartz. From fan-centric coverage of the Africa Cup of Nations to reporting on the first woman to deliver a child while being treated for Covid-19 in Cameroon, Daniel tells stories that cut across sport, health, politics, business, and culture.

"In the San Francisco Bay Area, Daniel has reported for Berkeleyside, Mission Local, Oaklandside, and Oakland North. His Berkeleyside story on how six UC Berkeley students secured affordable housing drew 12,000 views in a single week."

Before coming to Berkeley, Daniel was a TV sports reporter, anchor, and match commentator at Cameroon Radio Television (CRTV), where he covered the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2021 AFCON. He was named Best TV Sports Reporter for his "insightful" coverage.
